Expect heat wave to get more intense

September 15th, 2022

Expect the heat wave blanketing Barbados to get more intense in the coming days.

That’s the prediction from Director of the Barbados Meteorological Services, Sabu Best.

Sharing the most recent data with the Morning Report, he says the maximum temperatures have been trending just above 34 degrees Celsius.

However, the apparent temperature – how it feels on the outside – has been as high as 41 degrees, mainly in urbans areas and around Bridgetown.

With the formation of Tropical Storm Fiona, which is expected to pass well north of Barbados and pose no direct threat, Mr. Best says the system will still have an indirect impact on the country.

No records were broken in relation to high temperatures registered across the country, and he says there’s still need for more data to determine if these heat waves are lasting longer than usual.

Now the Atlantic Hurricane season has been quiet so far. In fact for the first time in more than 25 years, there were no systems recorded during the month of August.

However Mr. Best says there are signs that activity will pick up in the days and weeks ahead.
