Flash Flood Warning remains in effect

A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for Barbados.

A Flash Flood Warning is issued when rapid flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) is occurring or is imminent in the warning area.

In its latest statement, the Barbados Meteorological Services says rainfall accumulations of 10.0 to 35.0 mm have already been recorded across the island, with additional accumulations of 10.0 to 50.0 mm in moderate to heavy showers expected throughout the night.

Conditions are saturated in some areas, particularly in the southern sections of the island.

The public is warned of the possibility of significant runoff from higher elevations, significant soil erosion on exposed or scarred land surfaces and large water settlements on roads and fields. Also possible are significant adjustments to water levels of existing water bodies (ponds etc.), delays on traffic routes with some roads possibly
impassable, large objects or debris from higher elevations becoming embedded within fast-moving water flows and flooding at the foot of hillsides and coastal roads.
