Chris Husbands stars with double at Woodbine

December 11, 2022

CMC – Barbadian Chris Husbands logged two wins on Friday’s 11-race card at Woodbine, as the season at the western Canada oval moved into its final weekend.

The 32-year-old captured CAN$35 000 race two with 4-1 choice Robitaille before returning to win $37 000 race four with 6-1 bet Take Charge Gent.

Husbands has won nine times in 154 rides at Woodbine this season.

Veteran and fellow Barbadian Patrick Husbands also tasted success when he piloted favourite Eme Claire to a crushing 6-¼ length score in $126 800 race five, going six furlongs for the two-year-old maiden fillies.

However, he tasted disappointment in the feature $150 000 Clarendon Stakes over six furlongs in race one when he finished second with favourite Poulin in O T, 2-1 chance Armstrong taking victory by a neck.

It was Chris Husbands who stole some of the spotlight, however. He opened his account over a mile and sixteenth when he combined with three-year-old bay gelding Robitaille to edge the three-year-old and upward maidens by half-length.

Robitaille, along with 8-1 bet Grand Gizmo, stalked pacesetter Hushemup through fractions of 24.41 seconds for the quarter and 49.48 for the half mile, before Husbands got the gelding to the front in mid-stretch and held well.

Husbands was in winners’ row again soon afterwards when he steered another three-year-old bay gelding Take Charge Gent to a narrow win over the three-year-olds and upward, in another mile and sixteenth trip.

Four-to-one choice Runningforcover, with Patrick Husbands aboard, produced the early splits but the stalking Glorious Tribute attacked at the five-sixteenth pole to grab the lead at the quarter pole.

Chris Husbands got the most out of Take Charge Gent in the stretch, however, and just caught the leader.
