The Kelly brothers packed a 1-2 punch to win the Elite section of the inaugural Bike Caribbean Competition held recently in St. John.
Overall, more than 20 riders competed, with five of them battling it out in the Elite section, on a route that started at St. Gabriel’s Church and ended at Featherbed Lane.
Joshua Kelly won the 10-lap 58 kilometre event with his brother Jacob of Team Sentry Barbados 2nd, and Edwin Sutherland third.
Joshua, who represents Miami Blazers, a professional cycling team in the USA, says it felt good to be back home and winning.
He collected the two thousand dollar top prize.
The Women’s Elite section was won by Merissa Bradshaw, while in the Masters 35 to 49 Ron Greaves was first, Allan Maynard second and Patrick Fleming of St. Martin third.
The new Circuit Cross Race, which challenged competitors over grass, gravel and dirt, saw Randy Licorish finishing 1st, Delano Hinds second, and Marissa Bradshaw third.
14 year old Najari Chase won the Pump Track event which was geared towards the tiny-mite section.
Organiser Monique Hinds says the events were well received and plans are already in the works for 2024.
