All-rounder Keemo Paul is the surprise inclusion in the West Indies squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 qualifiers.

The Cricket West Indies Men’s selection panel today named the squad to participate in the eight-team tournament that will be played in Zimbabwe from June 18.

The regional side will be hoping to secure one of the two final places in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup to be played in India later this year.

Lead Selector, the Most Honourable Dr. Desmond Haynes, says Paul is a three-dimensional player, who can bowl the new ball effectively.

He adds that Paul is now fully recovered from injury and with his skill-set, they see him as a potential match-winner.

Ahead of the qualifiers, the Windies will have a three-match One Day International series against United Arab Emirates in Sharjah, for which the selection panel also named the squad for those matches to be played on June 5, 7 and 9.

These matches will form part of the preparations for the qualifiers.

The full squad for ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers reads, Shai Hope (Captain), Rovman Powell (Vice Captain), Shamarh Brooks, Yannic Cariah, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Nicholas Pooran and Romario Shepherd.

The squad for the warm-up matches against UAE does not include some of the players currently involved in the IPL but will see four uncapped players get a chance.

They include left-handed batter Alick Athanaze, as well as all-rounders Kavem Hodge, Dominic Drakes, and Akeem Jordan.
