Road tennis coaching course underway

January 19, 2023

With the aim of streamlining road tennis in Barbados to a formal national sporting programme, one of the major areas to be developed is coaching.

In an effort to get people qualified, the National Sports Council, in collaboration with the Barbados Olympic Association, has launched its first certified coaching course.

20 participants, including 10 students from the Barbados Community College, are now engaged in a two week course comprised of coaching theory and a practicum element, under the guidance of instructors Denise Alleyne, Ian Weithers, Jamal Grosvenor, Ramon Armstrong and George Shepherd.

Participants will be engaged in seminars and classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

With female participation in road tennis needing a boost, Assistant Director of Sport at the National Sports Council Adrian Donovan says spaces were specifically allocated for women.

On completion, participants will be awarded with two certificates – NSC certification and a CANOC certificate. BOA General Manager Glyne Clarke says having the regional level training augers well for establishing the sport outside of these shores.
