BPSA: No evidence of sick out

August 2, 2023

Reports tonight that there appears to have been little or no significant response to a call for a sick out by workers across the private and public sectors today, to protest the recently announced changes to the island’s pension age and eligibility.

Chair of the Barbados Private Sector Association (BPSA), Trisha Tannis says there was no evidence that workers in that sector had engaged in such action.

Meanwhile, the single largest union representative of public sector workers, the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), says it is also not aware of any industrial disruptions that occurred within the public sector today.

General Secretary Richard Greene says he was not aware that any members of the Union were a part of such action.

Over the long holiday weekend, calls arose from former Senator and head of the Unity Workers Union, Caswell Franklyn for workers to sick out to protest the pension changes.
