Bridgetown Port working to increase efficiency

November 13th, 2021

The Bridgetown Port is taking the necessary steps to increase efficiency.

It will make another major move in that direction in the coming weeks when the Facilitation of Maritime Traffic Bill is debated in Parliament.

This from Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy Minister, Kirk Humphrey.

He says over the last two years the Port has improved the processes relating to clearing cargo, including becoming more technologically savvy, all in an effort to move things along faster.

The Minister was speaking at a ceremony for Maritime Day Awards, where two Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology students were rewarded.

Isaiah Cozier was named the Most Outstanding Student in Maritime Operations, while John-Bernard Yearwood completed the Diploma in Marine Diesel Engineering.

The Barbados Port Inc. was also recognised for its humanitarian efforts in the repatriation of thousands of crew members and passengers from cruise ships, and the consistent provision of port services to Barbadians during the early stages of COVID-19 pandemic.
