Guyana Amazon Warriors won their first match of the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season against Saint Lucia Kings by six wickets at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia on Saturday night.

Shimron Hetmyer and Heinrich Klaasen led the runs chase with a solid 66-run partnership. In the end, Klaasen blasted 61 from 46 balls, helping the Guyana Amazon Warriors to seal their much-needed win with 10 balls to spare.

After winning the toss, the Guyana Amazon Warriors put the Saint Lucia Kings in to bat. Urged on by their home crowd, they quickly reached 77-0 in the powerplay, but spinners Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi slowed them down to a final score of 161/7.

The Kings’ 20-over innings was inspired by Johnson Charles’ exciting knock of 89 off 59 balls.

The win for Guyana Amazon Warriors means they have clinched their first victory of the 2022 CPL season, and Saint Lucia Kings have suffered their second consecutive defeat.

Scores:

Saint Lucia Kings – 161 for seven off 20 overs (Johnson Charles 87 not out, Faf du Plessis 31, Tim David 23; Tabraiz Shamsi 2-14)

Guyana Amazon Warriors – 162 for four off 18.2 overs (Heinrich Klaasen 61 not out, Shimron Hetmyer 32, Chandrapaul Hemraj 23; Jeavor Royal 2-17) (SNR/CPL)
