A Barbadian medical professional and university academic has warned future health practitioners will have a global problem on their hands with hypertension.
Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Dr. Kenneth Connell in providing statistics says one in three people have hypertension and four out of five are not receiving the care needed to keep it under control.
He also says many do not know they have hypertension.
Dr. Connell was a the time delivering a public lecture in Ghana on the topic “From Bridgetown to Accra – Hypertension as a Threat to the Diaspora: Lessons from COVID”.
With increased focus on climate change, Dr. Connell says air pollution is among the risk factors of hypertension.
He says training the next generation is important.
