As many people flock to pastures and other open spaces to partake in the popular pastime of kite-flying this Easter, the local electricity provider has been making sure they do so safely.

The Barbados Light and Power Company (BLPC) recently held a kite flying safety event for students of five St. Lucy-based schools.

The children were taught how to make kites, the history of kite-making and how the national pastime can result in power outages.

BLPC’s Engineering Manager, Transmission And Distribution Assets, Dr Nneka Archer, discouraged the students from retrieving kites that come into contact with power lines.
