Minibus driver succumbs to gun shot injuries

The 56 year old minibus driver who was shot multiple times on December 1st has succumbed to the injuries.

Police Public Relations Officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss confirmed that Victor Walton of 2nd Avenue, Haynesville, St. James died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital around 10:30 last night.

Lawmen say Mr. Walton was on life support for the past nine days.

The St. James man, a part-time public service vehicle operator who usually worked the Oistins, Christ Church route, was discovered last week in St. Lucy with a number of bullet wounds in his head.

Police said they received a report on the night of December 1st about a minibus that had crashed into a tree near the junction of Maycocks and Husbands.

It was then that Mr. Walton was discovered with the injuries and taken to the QEH.

While expressing condolences to the family, the Alliance Owners of Public Transport paid tribute to the deceased operator, who was affectionately known as ‘Preacher Man’.

The group’s Communications, Information and Marketing Officer Mark Haynes says he will be missed.
