As Barbados continues to observe the Season of Emancipation, one film producer is hoping his soon-to-be released movie will help to uplift the consciousness of the population.
Damon Corrie is currently working on “1312 – They Came In Peace Before Columbus”.
It offers a new perspective to local history, revealing the untold story of life here before the start of the slave trade.
It examines the exploration efforts of the Mali Empire and the notion that one of its ships reached Barbados and St. Vincent in the year 1312, or 180 years before Columbus arrived in the region.
Corrie says fundraising has been a main hindrance to the project but he’s remaining positive the monies could be accumulated through crowd funding and donations.
