Over 100 political candidates will be seeking official nomination today, ahead of the January 19 poll.
The candidates represent a number of political organisations, including the People’s Party for Democracy and Development led by Bishop Joseph Atherley, which has joined forces with the United Progressive Party under its leader Lynette Eastmond. That new party is now known as the Alliance Party for Progress (APP).
Solutions Barbados, led by Grenville Phillips II, has also formed an alliance to contest the poll. They will join the ruling Barbados Labour Party and the Democratic Labour Party in the race to become the new government.
