RBPF working to retain accreditation

September 10th, 2021

The operations of the Royal Barbados Police Force will again be under the scrutiny of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

The process is expected to lead to the RBPF retaining the accreditation it first earned back in 1997.

When it was last scrutinized by the international agency, according to Deputy Commissioner, Erwin Boyce, a few deficiencies were flagged but these were rectified.

That was in 2017 and the overall standards were assessed as acceptable.

He says however, one of the concerns at the time was the condition of the area where exhibits were kept.

As part of the CALEA assessment, members of the public are being encouraged to call in and share their views on the force’s operations.

Deputy Commissioner Boyce is encouraging people to use the opportunity.

The process is expected to begin next Monday and runs until Wednesday.
