Salary negotiations commended

A leading university professor of economics is this evening commending the Government’s swift salaries and wage negotiations settlement with the unions.

Director of Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Professor Dr. Don Marshall, says this was done albeit at a time when the public was feeling the pinch from increasing double-digit inflation which minimized their spending capacity considerably.

He tells CBC News this was also done in a climate which was very difficult for the Government.

However, Professor Marshall says although this is welcomed a lot will depend on what measures are enforced when the Government presents its budgetary proposal in the coming week.
