An assurance from a top disaster official that the island’s shelters are ready and in good condition to stand up to the expected surge in activity in the coming weeks of the Atlantic Hurricane season.
Speaking exclusively to the Morning Report, Director of the Department of Emergency Management, Kerry Hinds gave an assessment of island’s preparations to date, saying she’s satisfied with the progress made.
She responded to a question about public shelters being underutilised in the past.
The DEM Director also revealed shelter protocols have been enhanced in light of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases linked to the rapidly spreading Omicron variants.
