Small craft advisory continues for Barbados

A small-craft advisory continues to be in effect for Barbados.

This alert is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 to 3.0 metres (8 to 10 feet) are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.

Low-pressure systems in the central Atlantic are expected to continue to generate moderate to rough swells ranging from 2.0 to 3.0 meters (7 to 10 ft) in the region.  Northerly swells ranging between 2.5m to 3.0m are anticipated to affect the Barbados marine area from Saturday, December 17, 2022, with above-normal sea swells expected to persist into early next week. The BMS continues to urge small craft operators and sea bathers to exercise caution. 

Key Message: 

All marine craft operators and beachgoers should note the following possibilities along the coast and near the shore of this zone, due to the imminent marine threat. 

-Large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels. 

-Operation of smaller vessels can be difficult at times due to large swells.

This alert message is valid from 6:00 am Saturday, December 17, 2022 and will be updated at 6:00 pm Monday, December 19,  2022 or sooner if conditions warrant.
