Student exchange programme brings benefits

April 25, 2023

Ten nursing students and one instructor from Duke University in North Carolina, USA, are currently on island for a two week training programme.

Through the initiative, hosted by the Barbados Community College and the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the students will be attached to four polyclinics to gain a firsthand view and understanding of the local health system.

This cohort is the first to visit the island since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The visit stems from a memorandum of understanding signed between the two institutions in 2007.

Deputy Chief Public Health Nurse Larone Hylande, has been giving some insight into how the programme will be executed.

BCC’s Principal Annette Alleyne and Clinical Nurse Educator with Duke University, Nicole Forlon, have both been speaking about the benefits of the exchange programme.
