The Barbados Government, as it embraces the Barbadian diaspora, has renamed the Vauxhall Primary School after pioneering US politician and past student Shirley Chisholm.
The activist and educator was born to Barbadian and Guyanese parents in New York on November 30, 1924.
Her family was in attendance for the special ceremony.
Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, Kay McConney says there were no reservations in renaming the school, Shirley Chisolm Primary when first proposed.
