Water outages as issues continue at Ionics Desalination Plant

May 4th, 2022

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is advising the public that the issues being experienced at the Ionics Desalination Plant continue today, Wednesday May 4th and so it has increased production from the Belle Pumping Station to assist neighbouring distribution systems.

However, the BWA says this effort will not completely make up the deficit created by the Desalination Plant being offline. As a result, customers in the Lodge Hill to Shop Hill and the Castle Grant systems, including residents along the West Coast and in parts of St. James, St. Thomas, St. Andrew, and St. Joseph will continue to experience water outages.

Additionally, today customers at the higher elevations in the Grandview system have started to be impacted as well. These now include areas of Belleville and other surrounding districts in St. Michael.

The BWA says it will continue to assist all affected residents via water tanker in the interim, and will update the public as the situation progresses.
