Bridgetown was transformed into a spectacular city of lights as national junior swimmer Gabrilla Babb flipped the switch around 6:10 p.m. this evening.

One of Barbados’ favourite national, November traditions returned this year with the Sagicor Life Inc. Lighting Ceremony and Bajan Brew.

President Her Excellency The Right Excellent Dame Sandra Mason headlined a cohort of dignitaries, who filled Heroes Square along with Cabinet Ministers, Parish Ambassadors, other officials and scores of onlookers.

Various performances illustrated the evening’s event in a cultural showpiece.

As is customary, the nation’s capital was illuminated in the national colours of ultramarine and gold, much to the delight of those gathered.

Member of Parliament for The City of Bridgetown, Corey Layne said while the country had been feeling the negative effects of individualism, a move towards nationalism was on the way.

And Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc, Paul Inniss, said his company had been loyal to the development of Barbados.
