Barbados is being encouraged to consider legislation to regulate the advertising of junk food to children.
The suggestion was put forward by UNICEF resident representative for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Dr Aloys Kamuragiye.
He says national policies are also needed to regulate the sale of unhealthy foods to children in schools.
Physical education is another area to be tackled.
Dr Kamuragiye says social and cultural norms that can lead to non-communicable diseases must also be addressed.
