The Barbados Employers' Confederation has responded to recent calls for the private sector to grant salary increases to workers in that sector, in keeping with the recent five per cent wage increase for public servants.
In a statement, the BEC has made the point that salary increases never went on pause in the private sector.
The confederation says over the past ten years, while the public sector has had no wage increase, wage negotiations have continued in the private sector.
The BEC notes that private sector entities have continued to negotiate collective agreements at the level of the individual company, and in other instances by industry sector.
The Confederation says this has resulted in wage increases in some sectors every year or every other year, since 2009.
