The dramatic 54% surge in visitor arrivals recorded in January, largely fuelled by United States airlift, could be just as swiftly reversed by a geopolitical or regulatory shift.
That warning from Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Deborah Norville.
She says it is a stark reminder that the Caribbean’s economic lifeline remains susceptible to decisions made in distant capitals.
And Ms Norville says diversification of markets and strengthening regional air access are therefore a matter of national economic security.
