The final group of Barbadian athletes has left the island this afternoon for Grenada ahead of the 53rd CARIFTA Games.
The 28 members, including athletes and coaches, join the 42 who departed last evening, marking Barbados’ largest-ever contingent to the Games. Family, friends, and well-wishers gathered at Grantley Adams International Airport to send them off.
Under the theme “Passion Drives Performance”, the Games will feature top under-17 and under-20 competitors from across the region.
Head coach and former national high jump record holder Desiree Gamble encouraged the athletes to give their best, aiming to surpass last year’s medal tally of 14. She highlighted the role of the junior national training squad, launched in February last year, as pivotal in their preparations.
The Games are set to begin on Saturday.
