Barbadian Rashad Gibson has advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s 400 metres hurdles on day two of the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Running in lane five of heat eight, Gibson finished third in 51.74 seconds to secure an automatic qualification spot for Saturday’s semi-final.
In the women’s 400 metres, Kadia Rock finished fourth in heat six. However, her time of 53.26 seconds made her the fastest non-automatic qualifier for the semi-finals.
Rock will compete in semi-final one tonight at 11:08.
On the men’s side, Shamari Greenidge-Lewis also progressed to the semi-finals after placing second in heat one of the 400 metres in 46.34 seconds. He will compete in semi-final two at 10:51.
Meanwhile, Jayden Walcott finished sixth in the final of the men’s shot put with a throw of 19.27 metres. Alessandro Borges of Brazil won the event with a personal best of 20.35 metres.
In the women’s 100 metres, Aniya Nurse missed out on a place in the final after finishing sixth in semi-final one in 11.58 seconds.
