Government is partnering with the Barbados Renewable Energy Association (BREA) to offer structured internships and apprenticeships for at-risk young people.
This includes young women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Minister of Labour, Social Security and Third Sector Colin Jordan says the main purpose of the partnership is to facilitate transitions.
He says the partnership is a significant move that has come at a time when Barbados is moving towards a renewable, carbon-neutral society and people are an important part of that transformation.
Addressing the People Development Third Sector Grant Facility awards ceremony, Minister Jordan said all measures have to be put in place to ensure young people are able to make the adjustments.
The People Development Third Sector Grant Facility is designed to facilitate partnerships with the Third Sector to allow for the development of citizens, social inclusion, and national development goals through strategic, community-based interventions.
Under the facility, grant funding will be offered up to Bds$30 000 per approved proposal to Third Sector organisations which are advancing sustainable development and people empowerment across the island.
This year’s awardees are Ten Habitat, Unborn Justice, and the Rotary Club of Barbados South.
