In a move that will strengthen and expand the island’s pharmaceutical capacity, Barbados and Nigeria today signed a memorandum of agreement.
The agreement was signed between Head of the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain Dr Abdul Mukhtar and Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Pharmaceuticals Inc., Colin Scaife.
It was witnessed by Barbados’ Minister of Health and Wellness, Senator Dr. the Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, and Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate.
This MOU establishes a comprehensive framework for collaboration between the two countries in industrial capacity and human development; market access and market shaping; clinical trial cooperation; and regulatory, financing and policy alignment.
It also builds on ongoing work with AMA Medical Manufacturing, a leading Nigerian biopharmaceutical company exploring the establishment of a manufacturing facility in Barbados.
The signing of the MOU forms part of a four-day trip of a Barbadian delegation, led by Dr Walcott, to Nigeria.
