Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley says persistent gun violence has made the message of Good Friday even more important to Barbadians.
In her message marking the sacred day, the Prime Minister joined Barbadians at home, across the diaspora, and within the wider Christian community in reflection, sacrifice and hope.
She called on citizens to turn back to one another, protect the vulnerable, and accept shared responsibility for the peace and safety of their communities.
Ms Mottley noted that in recent months, the country has faced challenges that test its very fabric, with ongoing gun violence leaving many families and communities grieving.
In that context, she said the meaning of the day carries even greater urgency.
The Prime Minister stressed that the message of the cross is one of transformation, reminding all that even in times of pain and difficulty, there is room for redemption, renewal and a better path.
She added that it is a moment not only for faith, but also for reflection on the kind of country being built and the values by which Barbadians live.
