Head of the Public Service Donna Cadogan is reminding public officers of the official rules ahead of next month’s general election.
In a memo dated January 20th, circulated to all permanent secretaries and boards of state-owned enterprises, it was emphasised that government must continue to operate while ensuring the smooth functioning of the public service, which must at all times be maintained with strict neutrality.
Boards of state-owned enterprises and statutory bodies have been advised to continue routine operations but refrain from major policy changes, entering significant financial commitments, or making senior human resource appointments.
While new government advertising or publicity campaigns are prohibited, social media and blogs should be restricted to essential factual updates.
Additionally, no officer shall engage in political canvassing, wear party regalia, or distribute campaign materials while on duty or within government premises.
Heads of departments are reminded to coordinate schedules to ensure all officers have the opportunity to vote while maintaining essential government services.
