NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC – A gunman shot and killed a 27-year-old father as he cradled his eight month old  child a few yards away from his home.

Police said that the baby escaped injury as well as a six-year-old child, who  was nearby.

“The victim, a 27-year-old male, pulled into his residence, exited his vehicle with his eight-month-old female in his hand and was immediately accosted by a male who exited a white Japanese vehicle,” Chief Superintendent, Chrislyn Skippings told reporters.

“This male opened fire on the victim as he held the eight-month-old in his hands, shooting him multiple times. The (baby) was unharmed during the incident.”

The police have not yet released the name of the victim, the 90th murder recorded here so  far this yea but said he was well known to them.

“I’m sure the children are traumatised. Adults are traumatised when these incidents occur,”  said Skippings.

“As a country, we have to be able to talk to our males. We have to let them know that we will have conflicts, but we have to find different ways to resolve these conflicts using an edge tool not a firearm. It’s not the answer. It escalates the situation more,” said Skippings.
