HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – Two American nationals will return to court in September after they appeared in a magistrate’s court on charges of importing drugs into the British Overseas Territory.
The two cruise passengers -Tracy Ann Williams, 45, and Sabrina Lewis, 49, both from Michigan, were accused of importing THC between an unknown date and July 17.
Williams was additionally charged separately with importing cannabis and carfentanyl.
Neither entered a plea as their matter is indictable, and Magistrate Craig Attridge remanded both in custody until the September arraignments session.
Meanwhile, police said that four American cruise visitors were arrested after they were found in possession of “a significant amount of drugs” and drug paraphernalia believed to be destined for the island.
The police said that the suspects were found with several compressed packages containing cannabis and one package containing the synthetic opioid fentanyl, along with vape pens and a quantity of suspected THC gummies on board the cruise ship.
According to police, the fentanyl seized, with a potent variety known as carfentanyl, was originally developed for veterinary use to tranquillise large animals such as elephants.
The police are urging the public with any information to come forward, saying also that they can speak with a familiar police officer, call the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477, or use the police community reporting portal.
