SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, CMC – The Dominican government has hired U.S.-based consulting firm DGA Group Government Relations under a special arrangement to provide advisory services on issues including security, immigration, drug and human trafficking, and human rights.
The one-year contract, awarded without a competitive process, is being overseen by the Ministry of the Presidency.
According to the firm’s proposal, the focus will be on improving the Dominican Republic’s international image, particularly in relation to the Haitian migration crisis, and strengthening ties with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The move comes amid growing international criticism of the country’s deportation practices, especially the removal of pregnant or nursing Haitian women.
It also coincides with Dominican efforts to negotiate the removal of a 10% U.S. tariff on its exports.
