GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill says he and his family are safe after gunshots were discharged outside his South Ruimveldt, Georgetown home on Saturday night.
“The Lord has been our protector. The Edghill’s family is safe in God’s hands. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers,” he posted on his Facebook page, followed by the text of Psalm 23.
According to Stabroek News, the minister said his wife was in the yard of the residence when the incident occurred but was not hurt.
“A vehicle came through shooting…. More than 15 spent shells were picked up,” Edghill was quoted as saying.
The incident comes three weeks after a property owned by Edghill was destroyed by fire.
Initially, it was believed the June 1 blaze at the Outreach Ministries International – Winners’ Cathedral at D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, was caused by an electrical fire.
However, investigators found CCTV footage of an individual in a hooded shirt entering the building shortly before the fire started, and the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement that it was being treated as arson.
Police have not indicated whether the shooting and the fire are connected.
