Police searching the area where the bodies of the children were found in St. Ann, Jamaica, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Police say they have detained a 22-year-old man after the bodies of two children were found Wednesday in bushes close to their house in Swamp, Moneague, St Ann, on the north coast of the island.
The police said that the man is the father of the one-year-old Ameir Saunders and the stepfather of the three-year-old Shamair Henry, who had been reported missing Tuesday evening.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has not released the identity of the man, but media reports said that he consumed a cup of marijuana tea before allegedly carrying out the attack.
“He consumed some ganja tea and started acting hysterical and aggressive,” said Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Rohan Elliott, the commanding officer for the St Ann Division.
“Based on the evidence so far, it is pointing to him being the main suspect,” Elliott said.
The mother of the children is reported to have gone to the Moneague Police Station to report the incident, and the bodies of the toddlers were found on Wednesday in bushes close to the house, and blood stains were observed in a room.
