KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Police have charged Alaine Saunders with the murders of two children, including his son, whose bodies were found last Wednesday in bushes close to their house in Swamp, Moneague, St Ann, on the north coast of the island.
Police said that the 22-year-old man had been charged with the double murder of Saunders’ one-year-old son, Amir Saunders, and his two-year-old stepson, Shamair Henry.
They said Saunders was questioned in the presence of his lawyer and subsequently charged with two counts of murder. No date has been given for his court appearance.
Last week, police and media reports said that the murder accused had consumed a cup of marijuana tea before allegedly carrying out the attack.
“He consumed some ganja tea and started acting hysterical and aggressive,” said Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Rohan Elliott, the commanding officer for the St Ann Division.
The mother of the children is reported to have gone to the Moneague Police Station to report the incident, and the bodies of the toddlers were found in bushes close to the house, and blood stains were observed in a room.
