PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – A 19-year-old member of the Coast Guard is among two men who will be charged with the murder of a man whose body was found earlier this month.
A 22-year-old man is the other suspect in Diego Roper’s killing. The names of the duo were not disclosed in a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service on Saturday, which announced the pending charges after investigators received advice from the acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Sabrina Dougdeen Jaglal.
Subsequent checks were made for Roper but he could not be found. A red vehicle was seen to be hurriedly leaving the scene. Several attempts were made to communicate with Roper via his cell phone but that also proved futile.
A missing person report was made to the Maraval Police Station that day and an investigation was launched. Roper’s body was found on September 12 in a decomposing state.
The suspects were arrested on September 15 and 16 and are expected to appear before the High Court on Monday.
