The Barbados Union of Teachers says some schools are facing a shortage of teachers.
First Vice President Julian Pierre says some may have gone on pre-retirement leave or were granted leave.
He says there has been no replacement or substitution for those teachers.
Concerns over the recent surge in violence will be tackled during a planned meeting with the Ministry of Education.
