Seven artistes are among the first cohort to benefit from the million dollar Jackie Opel Legacy Lab Residency.
It embraces musicians, dancers and visual artists to celebrate, innovate, and educate through the power of art.
Those selected are Glen Rice, Sunrokk, Keisha Dowridge, Safia Stoute, Jomo Slusher, Alika Hinds-Orisawayi, and Starlite Talma.
The programme, which will run for nine months, provides a space for artistes to reimagine Opel’s contributions to Caribbean music, particularly spouge, and to create a new body of work.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with Responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight wants participants to be bold in their creative efforts as the lab is a space for experimentation.
Chief Executive Officer of the National Cultural Foundation, Carol Roberts says she has confidence in the artistes’ capabilities.
