A&E experiencing surge in patients

June 22, 2024

The Accident and Emergency Department is currently experiencing a significant increase in patients presenting for treatment for various medical complaints.

In a release, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital says the A&E’s medical team is working to manage the surge, and also reminds the public of other options for medical assessment and treatment, especially for cases that are not urgent.

Those requiring assistance are encouraged to call the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS/Help Desk) at 536-4800 using regular or Whatsapp calls between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Medical personnel will give an initial assessment and provide advice on the next course of action for treatment.

Patients can also seek treatment at the 24-hour clinic at the Winston Scott Polyclinic at Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael or contact a private medical physician for advice.

Life-threatening conditions under the A&E’s Triage System will continue to be seen and treated immediately, however, other individuals who present with conditions considered less urgent during the current surge will in some cases have an extended wait for treatment.

The QEH says updates will be provided and apologises for any inconvenience.
