Barbadians urged to practice fire safety

An appeal to members of the public to be wary of leaving electrical fans and cell phone chargers plugged in unsupervised.

The call from Station Officer at the Barbados Fire Service, Marlon Small comes following a blaze on Wednesday at Risk Road in St. James.

The fire resulted in at least ten people – nine adults and a child – displaced after five houses were damaged by a fire.

According to reports one wooden structure was destroyed around twenty-four minutes after six in the evening.

Two properties were extensively damaged while two others received slight damage from the radiating heat.

Two water tenders and ten officers under the command of Station Officer Small initially responded to the blaze.

However, due to the intensity of it, an additional appliance was requested.

No injuries were reported from the incident.
