Barbados and Ghana are working to strengthen bilateral ties in the area of labour as the two countries seek solutions to the challenges in their workforce.
The matter was among the topics up for discussion when High Commissioner of Ghana, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, paid a courtesy call on the Ghanaian Minister for Labour, Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, in Accra.
The meeting provided an opportunity to explore how Ghana’s high graduate unemployment rate and Barbados’ labour shortages could be addressed through a labour market exchange programme.
He further expressed Ghana’s readiness to formalise the partnership through a memorandum of understanding and a bilateral agreement.
Ms. Bynoe-Sutherland welcomed the proposal.
Areas highlighted for collaboration include the demand for medical specialists, economists, statisticians, educators, engineers, and renewable energy experts.
