The governments of Barbados and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela have issued a joint declaration to deepen cooperation across five key sectors.
The agreement was signed on Monday by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and President Delcy Rodríguez Gómez at a meeting in Caracas.
In the area of energy security, there will be deeper commercial exchange and training in the areas of energy and hydrocarbons.
There is also a goal of enhancing food security and mitigating shocks and uncertainty, while developing trade and collaboration in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
In education and culture, the two countries plan to advance educational collaboration in language training for students from pre-school to tertiary level, as well as for language teachers and professionals. They also plan to implement scholarships in each country, beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year.
In tourism, the two countries will sign an agreement in the coming weeks to increase visitor flows and hold the first binational tourism meeting in 2027.
In maritime and air connectivity, there will be the establishment and implementation of arrangements for commercial shipping services, as well as the opening of a direct maritime cargo route.
Both Barbados and Venezuela have agreed that the joint declaration will take effect immediately.
