Barbados has its first resident ambassador to Liberia.
Ambassador Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, the current High Commissioner to Ghana, presented her letters of credence to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai this week.
President Boakai says the moment represents more than formality, but a reaffirmation of the historic and enduring relationship between Liberia and Barbados.
The diplomatic gesture comes just over a year after the formal establishment of relations between the two countries.
On February 28, 2024, in Ghana, Liberia’s Foreign Minister signed a historic agreement with Barbados’s Head of Mission in Accra, Ghana, Juliette Babb-Riley, formalising diplomatic ties between Liberia and Barbados.
In remarks following her accreditation, Ambassador Sutherland expressed optimism about the future of Liberia-Barbados relations.
She says this is the beginning of a meaningful partnership that not only recognises the shared history but also seeks to build a future of mutual benefit.
