Barbados is among four new members of the World Trade Organisation’s fisheries funding mechanism.
The voluntary fund, established under the WTO’s Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, provides financial support to developing and least-developed countries to help them implement the agreement and achieve more sustainable fisheries practices.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says this strengthens the voice of small island developing states in global efforts to ensure sustainable fishing.
The other countries to come on board are Haiti, the Seychelles and Mauritius.
