As emphasis is placed on ending plastic pollution this World Environment Day, Barbadians are being reminded of their role in preserving the island’s natural beauty and other resources.
Minister of the Environment and National Beautification, Adrian Forde, has encouraged citizens to commit today and every day to reducing their plastic footprint.
Barbadians were told they can do so by refusing disposable straws and cutlery at fast food restaurants, using reusable water bottles and shopping bags, and supporting local businesses that embrace eco-friendly practices or participate in community clean-ups.
While acknowledging the strides made by the island, which include the formulation of the Barbados National Action Plan to End Plastic Pollution, he says there is still more to be done.
