Even though slightly behind its CARICOM counterparts, Barbados now has a comprehensive legislation to advocate for and protect the human rights of citizens with disabilities.
According to Senator Andwele Boyce, advocates in other Caribbean countries have often inquired why Barbados was so late in developing comprehensive laws to protect those vulnerable persons.
However, while contributing to the Resolution: National Policy for Improving the Lives of Persons with Disabilities which he had a hand in developing, Senator Boyce declared that Barbados has learnt from the experiences of other jurisdictions in the region with similar legislation.
