Barbados Port Inc battling ongoing strain on its storage capacity

The Barbados Port Incorporated is battling an ongoing strain on its storage capacity with some vehicle shipments remaining for much longer than desired in the Port of Bridgetown.
Chief Executive Officer David Jean-Marie says as of Monday, February 10, 469 vehicles and 28 vehicle shells were in the port, and customs had a legitimate interest in another 14 vehicles, also in the port.
Some of them have been there for as long as 218 days, creating health and safety issues.
And to make matters worse, Mr. Jean-Marie says the port expects the arrival of 842 vehicles within the next five days.
Mr. Jean-Marie is reminding importers that cargo remaining in port for more than 30 days is classified as aged cargo and can be offered for sale by auction if it remains unclaimed.
