Barbados has signed a $75 million US loan agreement with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).
The funds will support Government’s Operation Roots from Cultural Heritage to Innovation Barbados project, aimed at building out the island’s cultural assets.
It was inked by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Executive Director of CAF, Sergio Diaz-Granados Guida on the sidelines of the CARICOM summit being hosted by Barbados.
Ms. Mottley says CAF has been a partner with Barbados for over 10 years.
She provided insight into the scope for the loan.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with Responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight sees the loan as significant.
She says it will allow Barbados to build out greater spaces for the creative sector.
